Hosted by: Brett Kashmere

Brett Kashmere presents the third installment of his curated series exploring Canada’s Escarpment School film movement and its impact on the Canadian experimental film scene. If you want to read about previous installments of this screening series, you can read Part One and Part Two.

Part Three is subtitled “Presence and Absence” and focuses in on personal explorations of the self, as well as family histories and counter-narratives. Included in the lineup, which is published below, are seven short films by seven different filmmakers who employ techniques such as hand-processing, optical printing and first person voice-over to “mine the gap between reality and representation” and to “give expression to the silences of history and memory.”

Here’s the lineup:

In the Form of the Letter “X”, dir. Mike Cartmell
Nursing History, dir. Marian McMahon
Froglight, dir. Sarah Abbott
Elegy, dir. Gary Popovich
Sweetblood, dir. Steve Sanguedolce
Shaggie: Letters from Prison, dir. Janis Cole
White Museum, dir. Mike Hoolboom
