Underground Comes to VOD

Shiny Object Digital Video has acquired two films by underground filmmaking legend Jon Moritsugu for Video on Demand (VOD) distribution. According to their website, Shiny Object has distribution deals with the internet video companies Akimbo, Dave.tv, Green Cine and World Cinema Online. (Update: Sadly, all of these streaming services went out of business.)
Jon’s 1994 film Mod Fuck Explosion won the Best Feature Award at the 1995 New York Underground Film Festival and his 2002 Scumrock also won Best Feature in 2002 at NYUFF and the Chicago Underground Film Festival. He’s definitely one of the top names in underground cinema and this sounds like a great deal for everyone involved. Hopefully this is just the beginning of the promise of VOD, where viewers can have relatively easy access to really obscure, off-beat material in addition to mainstream stuff.
Shiny Object will also be offering Jennifer M. Kroot‘s Sirens of the 23rd Century, which played at both the 2004 Boston and Lausanne Underground Film Festivals. It also won a bunch of awards at the New Orleans Gay and Lesbian Film Fest and the Buenos Aires International Festival of Fantastic, Bizarre and Horror Films (that’s some festival title!).
The Shiny Object website has descriptions of all three films, plus trailers. (UPDATE: Well, it had.)
