Subversive to Release MUFF Hit

By Mike Everleth ⋅ June 3, 2006

Director Mark Savage strikes a pose

Subversive Cinema, the Seattle-based DVD distributor, will be releasing a 3-disc box set featuring the work of director Mark Savage in August. Included in the package is Savage’s debut film Mauraders, plus Sensitive New-Age Killer and the 2004 Melbourne Underground Film Festival Best Film award winner: Defenceless, which also won Best Actress and Best Cinematography at the Australian MUFF. Know what award the film didn’t win? Best Dialogue. And why not? Because it doesn’t have any!

From the Subversive website:

And then there’s DEFENCELESS, his bold, audacious “Blood Sonata” depicting the heartless destruction and murder of a woman of nature, and her ghost-like return to exact retribution on the men responsible. Filmed with state-of-the-art digital technology and no dialogue, this is a brutal, beautiful, and haunting experimental work that stands with the challenging films of Ozu and Bunuel

And if you write in to Subversive quickly enough, you may still have time to actually name the box set. Buy the box set from Amazon!
