Rooftop Films: Best of Hi/Lo Film Festival

By Mike Everleth ⋅ August 10, 2006

Rooftop Films, the NYC outdoor roving film festival, is only showing on two nights this weekend (as opposed to the typical 3):

Friday, Aug. 11:
8:30 p.m.: The Shutka Book of Records, dir. Aleksander Manic. A documentary on Shutka, Macedonia — the unofficial capital of the Roma people, i.e. gypsies. This film also kicks off the Solar One green film festival. Preceded by live music from the electric 10-stringed collision of Bradford Reed and His Amazing Pencilina. Screening on the East River at Solar One at 23rd St. just north of Stuyvesent Cove Park, Manhattan.

Saturday: Aug. 12:
8:30 p.m.: “Shorts from the Hi/Lo Film Festival.” Featuring selections from this year’s Hi/Lo, the San Francisco shorts film festival, which was held this year on April 6-9. I don’t know what shorts Rooftop will be screening. Preceded by music that’s currently TBA. Screening at Solar One (see above).

As always, for more info, please visit the official Rooftop Films website.
