Every Other Day Is Underground Film Journal Film Quote Whore Day

By Mike Everleth ⋅ March 27, 2010

I absolutely hate corny stories like the one I’m about to tell, but this one’s absolutely true: When I was a teenager, I used to fantasize about the day I might find my name in an issue of Fangoria, the horror movie magazine that I bought and devoured religiously. I wanted to be in there so bad, either as a filmmaker or screenwriter or even as a correspondent.

Little did I fantasize that it would take becoming a film quote whore that would get my words published in that mag. And I totally wish I had thought of it sooner, otherwise it might not have taken me this long.

Ok, it’s not my name either, but up above is an ad printed in the April 2010 issue of Fangoria promoting the release of C.W. Prather‘s amazing documentary Every Other Day Is Halloween, a profile of the legendary Washington, D.C. horror TV host Count Gore De Vol and the man behind the cape, Dick Dyzel. The ad — as well as the DVD box — includes quotes by me about the film, although they’re credited to “UndergroundFilmJournal.com” and not me specifically. Hey, us quote whores will take what we can get! The issue is currently on newsstands.

It’s an absolutely fabulous film and I’m going to do what I can to make sure everybody sees it when it gets released on DVD on April 20. Right now, it’s available for pre-order on Amazon, but it’ll soon be available wherever fine DVDs are sold or rented. It’s an incredibly sincere and nostalgic look back at an era of broadcast television that has sadly fallen into extinction, an era when local stations actually had their own identities and performers. On the one hand, the film is wonderfully uplifting and, on the other hand, equally sad that those days are gone forever.

And look, my quote whoring job is done. The ad’s printed up and on the newsstands. Therefore, that proves that my continued gushing is very sincere. I mean, it was sincere before and it still is. I’ll post up another reminder that the DVD is available when the release date is closer, but please keep it in mind until then.
