Carbuncle Takes Over Portland
The city of Portland is about to get a double dose of T. Arthur Cottam this weekend … which seems like a good thing. First, his short film Filthy Food will be playing at the 10 Or Less Film Festival on Fri. Oct. 19 at 9 p.m. at the Hollywood Theatre. Lots of great shorts playing at 10 Or Less and you can check out the full lineup here.
But then on Sun. Oct. 21 at 6 p.m., you can watch Cottam’s first feature film Carbuncle along with Filthy Foods if you miss it on Friday, plus another another short at the DreamBOX at the Jupiter Hotel. Carbuncle features a tyrannical director (yes, Cottam) trying to make a film despite his complex OCD behavior and other bizarre quirks. Yet, the crew seems to love him. Cottam plus several actors from the film will be on hand for a Q&A after the screening.
Cottam has directed a couple of short films. Carbuncle, as I said, is his first feature. And this special Sunday event is a benefit to help benefit his next feature, Home Videos. I haven’t seen Cottam’s work before, although I know Filthy Food has played a couple underground film fests this past year. Allegedly, that short is banned in Italy. I don’t know how a country can ban a short film, but perhaps that’s a question for the Q&A.
And I’m embedding the trailers for both films below. Watch, they’re good:
