The website All Things Horror — which you should go check out because it’s pretty cool — hosts a monthly screening series on the first Wednesday of every month. And they’re kicking off their 2011 season with Nathan Wrann‘s chilling revenge thriller Burning Inside. Tickets can be bought through the All Things Horror website.
While the film is available for viewing on DVD courtesy of Channel Midnight releasing, if you’re in the Boston area it’ll be well worth it to trek out to watch it on the big screen and to participate in a post-screening Q&A with Wrann. Also, I believe there might be some short films screening before the main feature, but I can’t guarantee that.
Burning Inside is a surreal, minimalist thriller shot mostly in B&W about a man who wakes up from a coma not knowing how or why he got to be in the hospital. With the help of a lovestruck nurse, his memory is slowly jogged back to life along with his body. But, once he’s back out in the real world, he’s forced to re-live tragic events from his past that force him to deal with some bloody unfinished business.
This is a really unique entry in a familiar genre, both visually and stylistically. There’s very little dialogue in the movie — in fact, I believe the main character never even speaks a single word. But, still, very raw emotions are expressed without many words and the way the past and the present interact is very creatively handled by Wrann. Highly recommended.
And if you’re an indie horror filmmaker, you should consider submitting your film to All Things Horror for a future screening.
