2009 Migrating Forms: The Trailer

By Mike Everleth ⋅ April 3, 2009

I don’t know who made the trailer for the inaugural Migrating Forms experimental film festival, which is embedded above, but I think it’s sheer genius. (UPDATE: Filmmaker is Michael Robinson.) It’s an hallucinatory mash-up of several oddball ’80s elements. It’s got your badly tracked — who remembers adjusting tracking on videotapes? — hair care product infomercial video, your cheezeball New Age self-help inspirational audio and cruddy 8-bit computer graphics. What’s not to love?

As a reminder, Migrating Forms will run April 15-19 at the Anthology Film Archives and will screen feature experimental work by Owen Land, Alejandro Adams, Lucy Raven, Jessica Oreck and Michael Gitlin; short films by Steve Reinke, Ben Rivers, Stephanie Barber, Kent Lambert, Robert Todd and Kevin Jerome Everson; curated exhibitions by 16beaver, e-flux and MonkeyTown; plus the always popular TubeTime! throwdown event.
