2008 Arizona Underground Film Festival: Call For Entries

Looks like there’s a new kid on the block this year: The 2008 Arizona Underground Film Festival is currently open for entries for, what I believe, is their first year. It’s going to run this Oct. 17-19 and the early deadline is nearly upon us:

Earlybird Deadline:
July 20

Features & Shorts: $20
Music Videos: $15

Regular Deadline:
August 15

Features & Shorts: $25
Music Videos: $20

Late Deadline:
September 15

Features & Shorts: $30
Music Videos: $25

This is the first I’ve heard of the festival — and thanks goes out to director Kenneth Hughes for pointing it out to me. As for what they’re looking for, the stated mission statement is fairly basic and open. Here it is with the list of categories they accept:

To showcase every genre of independent film from across the world during this celebration of the independent artist. All genres fit into this.

Music Videos
Narrative (features & shorts)
Horror (features & shorts)
Documentary (features & shorts)
Experimental (features & shorts)
Animation (features & shorts)

There is an official website to check out, but there’s not much going on there right now except for a groovy logo. You can also submit via Withoutabox.

One last thing I want to point out: October now seems to be the busiest month for underground film festivals, with the addition now of Arizona and Chicago moving from August to Halloween. Actually, on my birthday, there are now four underground film festivals running concurrently. Must be a special date (Oct. 18).
