2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams, Tim Sullivan’s sequel to his own indie horror hit 2001 Maniacs, has been acquired by distributor First Look Studios, who will debut the film for its North American premiere on April 29 at the Texas Frightmare Film Festival in Dallas. Sullivan, along with several cast members, will walk the premiere’s blood red carpet.

In the sequel, horror stalwart Bill Moseley (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2) takes over the role of Mayor Buckman from Robert Englund and takes his merry band of psychotic southern killers to Iowa where they disrupt the filming of a reality TV show about two spoiled heiresses slumming it with the “common folk.” The unsuspecting rich girls go from being the toast of the town to being toasted and roasted over an open flame by the cannibalistic maniacs.

While Moseley may be new to the franchise, Lin Shaye and Christa Campbell will both reprise their roles of Granny Boone and Milk Maid from the first film. Also returning are Adam Robitel, Ryan Fleming and Amanda Tuffin, who also will be joined by new maniac Nivek Ogre, frontman of the legendary industrial band Skinny Puppy.

Post-Frightmare distribution plans haven’t been announced yet, but the first Maniacs had a fantastic run on the horror festival circuit back in 2005 and was eventually released on DVD by Lionsgate and played on VOD, including the horror-only FEARnet channel.

Horror director Sullivan is currently in pre-production on his latest feature Brothers of the Blood.
