Victoria Cook: Pie Of The Day
Mmmmm, pie! Embedded above is the animated short Pie of the Day by Victoria Cook. It’s real brief, but very cute — well, if you consider forks-in-eyeballs and vomiting “cute” — and very funny. So, give it a watch.
The animation is what I would call in the classic Ren & Stimpy style, e.g. the story is punctuated by overly grotesque still paintings that are panned across. But, I really like the simple design of the two main characters, the rabbit and the cat, and the still paintings are appropriately revolting and nicely detailed. Plus, as far as the story goes, the gags are all pretty funny, and the film’s major punchline is an especially good one.
The film screened at the 2009 Atlanta Underground Film Festival as well as the 2010 TromaDance Film Festival. Cook also has a couple of other animations uploaded to Vimeo that are equally good, so be sure to check those out, too. Or, visit her official website.

Victoria is a talent to watch in animation and underground filmmaker. Her humor, character designs and style remind me of classic cartoons from Looney Tunes to Ren & Stimpy. Great post, Mike.
Underground filmmaking* I should have said.
