2006 Tribeca Underground Film Festival Posts Lineup
I spoke too soon a week ago when I said it would probably be awhile before we got the Tribeca Underground Film Festival lineup, but they already have it up on their site. It’s May 2nd to the 6th with two hours of short films every night (with an intermission after an hour). An awards ceremony will then be held on the 7th.
So, you can either go see Tom Cruise arrive by helicopter and/or speedboat at the other Tribeca Film Festival to promote M:I:III or you can go see something interesting at TUFF.
About the TUFF lineup: It’s very long and they’re showing a lot of films, so I’m not going to post it here. You can go to their site and check it out. I’m not familiar with many of the directors, but two things struck me:
1) Opening night features a 9 minute short, Moongirl, by Henry Selick, the director of the feature films The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, Monkeybone and the upcoming Coraline (based on the book by Neil Gaiman). This should be a very interesting screening.
2) Closing night will feature a 25 minute short, Treading Water, by Nia Peeples, the former pop star and actress making her directing debut. Nia doesn’t appear in the film, but it does star William Katt and Sinbad. I mean, how do you get a cast like that together? That’s brilliant and I would go see this just for those two. And I’m not shittin’ you.
