The Underground News Feed

UPDATE: The Underground Film Journal has killed the product written about below.

If you want to keep up with the latest on what’s going on in the underground film world way beyond what I write about here on the Underground Film Journal, I’ve launched another widget that tracks screening info, movie reviews, videos, filmmaker blog posts and more. That’s it over there on the site’s right sidebar, and if you like what you see, grab it and stick it on your own site. It should fit most blog sidebars.

I like this widget over my previous one since it includes other sites in the mix besides just my own. For awhile now, I’ve been doing some thinking on how to build up an online network for the underground film crowd and this is a step towards that direction. I can only post so much, but I keep track of a ton of sites to try to stay on top of everything. So, while the widget will reflect my own biases, I still have a diverse pool of info to pull from and I’m always on the lookout for new and interesting things.

Honestly, I wish the widget were a little fancier, but it’s still a pretty cool tool pulling together a couple of free online resources. It’s interesting how many free tools are available out there.  To me, it always feels a bit funny investing so much energy into using them since they could go *poof* at any time, but I may just have that feeling after having lived and worked through the first Internet boom and bust. Still, these tools are out there, so may as well take advantage of them while they’re around.
