Rebecca Conroy: Run-In With A Groupie

By Mike Everleth ⋅ May 14, 2007

Filmmaker Rebecca Conroy has posted up another “camera sketch” from her upcoming feature From the Woods. Now, I’m not sure what a “camera sketch” is. Is it just a test of footage in preparation of the full film? Or is it an actual scene that will be in the movie? True, I could easily write and ask her, but where’s the fun in that? (Previous sketch here.) (Update: Watch the full version of From the Woods here.)

And either way, Rebecca continues to excite me about seeing the feature with these clips. This is a great looking clip that’s shot in a messily precise way. The handheld camerawork is very loose, yet perfectly frames and captures each advancement of the action, even if all the “action” is just dialogue. I also like where she positions her actresses in the space. Even ignorning the dialogue completely, the body language of each girl is what’s really telling the story.

I hope Rebecca keeps releasing these sketches. Actually, I think it’s a smart way for indie directors to keep people up-to-date on what they’re doing. More directors should do this form of video marketing.
