Movie Trailer: Karate Robo Zaborgar

By Mike Everleth ⋅ September 9, 2011

Here’s the kick-ass trailer to the Japanese action hit Karate Robo Zaborgar, directed by Noboru Iguchi. The title character, Zaborgar, is as the tagline says: Part Motorcycle, Part Karate Expert, All Robot!

If, like the Underground Film Journal, you were raised on a steady diet of ’70s Japanese TV show robot exports like Ultraman, Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot and, our personal favorite, Space Giants, then this trailer is going to be right up your alley.

Karate Robo Zaborgar is based on the ’70s show Denjin Zaborger, which never took off in the U.S. like the above titles did, despite being created by Kazuo Koike, who also created the epic manga series Lone Wolf and Cub, which was also adapted into a popular movie series.

The film screened at the 2011 Arizona Underground Film Festival on Sep. 19. The festival ran on Sep. 16-24 in Tucson.

It will next screen at the 2012 Boston Underground Film Festival on April 1.
