Movie Trailer: Dirty Martini And The New Burlesque

By Mike Everleth ⋅ October 20, 2009

Filmmaker Gary Beeber has released a two-minute teaser trailer for his feature-length documentary Dirty Martini and the New Burlesque. That’s it embedded above and it features a nice performance by the titular and vivacious Dirty Martini, plus commentary from her contemporaries.

Here’s a bit on just what the “new burlesque” actually is from a description of the film:

Burlesque is more than just vintage nudie cuties brought to life. It is performance art, modern dance, and political satire. It is the new punk rock and it is exploding in New York as well as most US cities and thanks to Dirty and her friends the world is catching on.

Personally, I’m thoroughly excited to see this film, which I’ve known has been in the works for a few months, but my excitement level is ratcheted up immensely after watching this clip.

Beeber is no stranger to documenting unique entertainers. Previously, he directed the short documentary Bally-Master, which profiled Scott Baker, the barker and performer for Coney Island’s Sideshows by the Seashore. Bally-Master, as I noted in my review, is a fantastically entertaining little film. So, I don’t expect any less from Dirty Martini and the New Burlesque.
