Lynne Sachs At Other Cinema

By Mike Everleth ⋅ October 20, 2007

This is kind of a last minute notice, but I only just got the screening calender for the legendary Other Cinema series in San Francisco in the mail today. But experimental documentarian Lynne Sachs will be presenting a combination screening and spoken word event that will explore her “decade-long artistic — rather than physical — immersion in war.” She’s covered topics “from Vietnam to Bosnia to WWII-occupied Rome to the Middle East.” Other Cinema doesn’t say exactly which films Sachs will be screening, but this event sounds like a real treat regardless.

On her website, Sachs lists a filmography of 19 films, plus one currently in production. Personally, I’ve only seen half of one of her films, Investigation of a Flame. However, the chance to see a Fred Phelps protest live and in person was too juicy to skip. Sorry, Lynne.

The Other Cinema screening series is held at the Artists Television Access center at 992 Valencia Street in San Francisco and will start at 8:30 p.m.

Next week, Other Cinema is holding a special horror shorts night, but I’ll post up the details for that later.
