M as in Maladie is one part of an extended conversation between the late French philosopher Gilles Deleuze and his student Claire Parnet. Deleuze was asked by Parnet to riff on different themes inspired by the alphabet. To complement the “M” portion of the dialogues, which will be screened tonight, artist Hedi El Kholti has selected two other films that deal with similar subjects. L’Ordre and The House Is Black are two documentaries that examine life in two different leper colonies, one in Greece and one in Iran.
