The Miseducation of Simon Kraus by director Michael J. Diaz tells the story of a young, college-educated artist trying to get his career started in a depressed economy.

Here is the official summary from the film’s website:

Simon Kraus has the talent and passion to succeed as a painter. After completing his BFA, he returns to his hometown of Melbourne, FL. He hopes that the move will provide him with solitude and inspiration. Simon has one month to complete a portfolio that he will submit for an internship with world- renowned Chinese artist Chen Lusheng.

Yet artistic productivity requires more than dreams and a natural gift. In Melbourne, new feelings, friends and moments collect in a snowballing pattern that will ultimately dictate a sharp turn in Simon’s path.

Simon’s world becomes its own swirling canvas-a tableau increasingly marred by darkness. “The Miseducation of Simon Kraus” follows Simon as he struggles to maintain his drive and paint portraits of those he loves, amidst distraction and danger.
