Catherine Forster of Chicago’s LiveBox presents a series of short films that focus on human interaction and habitation after the sun goes down.

The theme for this screening was inspired by the song “Because the Night” by singer-songwriter Patti Smith, which was co-written by Bruce Springsteen. Therefore, the short films selected here evoke a poetic quality of the nighttime. Filmmakers included in the program are: Caleb Engstrom, Fabienne Gautier, Paulo Fernandez, Christina McPhee, Midori Sakuraï, Pierre St-Jacques and Michael Szpakowski.

In Chicago, LiveBox brings new media art and performances to various galleries and museums across the city.

Here are some sample lyrics from “Because the Night.” Then, below, watch a performance of the song by Patti Smith.

Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to lust
Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to us
