2010 Spooky Movie Film Festival: Early Picks!

Spooky Movie, Washington, D.C.’s premiere horror film festival, has recently announced four films that will be screening at its fifth annual event on Oct. 21-25. The quartet of films feature lunatic hillbillies, zombies and the return of two living legends of horror: Count Gore De Vol and Herschell Gordon Lewis.
The Opening Night film will be the festival circuit hit Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, which previously debuted to great acclaim at Sundance and then went on to win an Audience Award at SXSW and the Best First Feature Award at the Fantasia Film Festival. Directed by Eli Craig, the film is a horror spoof about two hillbillies who are mistakenly identified as chainsaw-wielding lunatics by a gang of college students on spring break. Lots of gore, mayhem and laughs arise out of a series of brutally violent misunderstandings. Read more about the film on its official website.

Then, Friday night will feature Spooky Movie’s zombie movie double-feature, one of which will be Marc Price’s Colin. This innovative British horror flick follows the travails of a teenager who is transformed into one of the undead and is then left to wander around his suburban neighborhood searching for living flesh to munch on during the zombie apocalypse. Colin has screened at Cannes and won the Best Micro-Budget prize at the 2009 Raindance Film Festival. Previously, it screened in the U.S. at the 2009 Zero Film Festival.

Also screening will be the latest film by legendary gore-master Herschell Gordon Lewis, The Uh-Oh Show!, which was previewed at last year’s Spooky Movie. This year the film will be screened in its final and complete version and features over-the-top gore and humor in the tradition of his classic films such as Blood Feast, Two Thousand Maniacs! and The Wizard of Gore.
Lastly, Spooky Movie will host the long-awaited Virginia premiere of C.W. Prather‘s Every Other Day Is Halloween, the hit documentary about TV horror hosting icon Count Gore De Vol aka Dick Dyszel.
