2010 Chicago Underground Film Festival: The Trailer
Embedded above is the 8-bit-tastic trailer for the 17th annual Chicago Underground Film Festival, which is running at the Gene Siskel Film Center on June 24 — July 1. The trailer was commissioned by the fest from audio/visual media artist Jon Satrom. While the animation begins very calmly spelling out the festival’s acronym, it soon detonates into a total chaotic video game bomb.
Other than the trailer, Satrom doesn’t have another film in the fest this year. However, he does have an art installation set up in the Film Center that you can go look at before, after and in-between films. The title of the installation is called Purrflux’d, perhaps in honor of CUFF’s Lifetime Achievement Award winner this year, Jonas Mekas, who was good friends with artist George Maciunas, the main organizer of the Fluxus art movement.
Satrom teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and operates a production studio called Studio Thread. He’s also a member of the digital art group I Love Presets. To keep up with the artist, you can visit his official website and/or his blog.
