2008 Hell’s Half Mile Film & Music Festival: Call For Entries

By Mike Everleth ⋅ April 23, 2008

Here’s a film festival that was just brought to my attention. I’m not familiar with Hell’s Half Mile Film & Music Festival, but looking over their 2007 archive they played a bunch of underground films I’ve reviewed here on the Underground Film Journal, including Confusions of an Unmarried Couple, Plagues & Pleasures on the Salton Sea and the recently viewed Bad Dog and Superhero. I’m not sure if the fest is especially partial to films with unusually long titles, but anything is possible. Seriously, though, it looks like a cool festival, so we’re listing it here.

Final Deadline
August 1

The festival takes place in Bay City, Michigan and will run this year on Oct. 2-5. If you’re curious as to what the fest’s name is referring to (I was), I copied this bit off their MySpace page:

In the late 1800s, Bay City’s riverfront was known as HELL’S HALF MILE: a strip lined with rowdy saloons and two-bit hotels where turn-of-the-century loggers and shipmen would blow off steam and take in more than a little local color … Although time has passed, the same rough & tumble spirit is embodied in the Hell’s Half Mile Film & Music Festival.

Sounds like a good time. Visit their submission page for how to get your film in there.
