2007 Wisconsin Underground Film Festival: Call For Entries

By Mike Everleth ⋅ December 6, 2006

UPDATE: This festival was eventually canceled.

I suppose I could lead off with some crack about cheese, but instead I’ll just mention that the full title of this festival is the Wisconsin Underground Horror Exploitation Film Festival and the first edition will run April 28, 2007 at the Orpheum Theatre in Madison, WI. That full festival name is quite a mouthful, but at least it lets you know what they’re looking for exactly.

Deadline:
April 2, 2007 (fee $5)

The submission fee must be paid in the form of a money order and you can only submit material on DVD. The submission form can be found on the fest’s MySpace blog. In another blog post, you can read WUHEFF’s mission statement:

Of the sick, for the sick, by the sick…

The festival will also be honoring local filmmaker Bill Rebane with the “Wisconsin Underground Lifetime Achievement Award” and will screen just one of his films. Personally, I’m not familiar with Rebane’s work, but he’s produced and directed several monster-ish B movies according to IMDB. Plus, in addition to films, several metal bands will perform and “other facets of horror culture [will be] on display.” I guess that means they’ll have memorabilia out and about. Except for the metal bands — and I remember getting ticked off at Fangoria magazine back in high school when they started writing about heavy metal as if everybody into horror listened to that shit — this sounds like a really fun event.
