Miami Underground Film Festival

The Miami Underground Film Festival, which runs March 8-12, has posted up their fest calendar over on MySpace. If you are not a MySpace user (isn’t everybody?), you can still check it out on MUFF’s profile page, but for more detailed info you have to be a user. Or just read all about it below. Hey, how handy is that? One thing: I have no detailed info on the two shorts lineups, but you can view the trailers of a couple at my MUFF preview post, although I don’t know which is playing when. Sometimes, you gotta roll the dice…

Without further ado, here ya go:

March 8
8:00 p.m.: No Limit: A Search for the American Dream on the Poker Tournament Trail, dir. Tim Rhys with Brian O’Hare. A couple (director Tim Rhys and his wife Susan) try to get rich playing tournament poker.

March 9
7:30 p.m.: Shorts Program I

8:00 p.m.: Threat, dir. Matt Pizzolo. A homeless punk and a hip-hop revolutionary form an anti-drunk driving group that goes to extreme lengths to put a stop to that nefarious crime in NYC. Won Best Feature at the 2006 Lausanne Underground Film Festival.

10:00 p.m.: Johnny Was, dir. Mark Hammond. Vinnie Jones stars as violent criminal who hides out in a safe house stuck between a drug den and a pirate radio station. Things don’t work out so well.

March 10
6:00 p.m.: Shorts Program II

7:00 p.m.: Sixes and the One Eyed King, dir. Ray Nomoto Robinson. Aspiring suicide victims play an Internet game where visitors bet on Russian Roulette games.

8:00 p.m.: Quick Pick, dir. Will Vazquez. A lovable loser gets his two best friends help him find his lost $135 million-winning lottery ticket. Filmed in Miami.

9:15 p.m.: DarkBeat, dir. Iris B. Cegarra. A documentary on underground electronic music.

10:30 p.m.: Tied Up, dir. Jeremy Rubin. A group of friends plan the perfet crime that doesn’t go so perfectly.

11:15 p.m.: Pervert!, dir. Jonathan Yudis. In this homage to the films of Russ Meyer, a college student hopes to solve a bizarre murder. Starring former CA gubernatorial candidate Mary Carey. Also played at last year’s Coney Island Film Festival and the Lausanne Underground Film Festival.

March 11
6:00 p.m.: Brutal Incasso, dir. Jonas Kvist Jensen. A couple of crooks run into problems when they try a career change.

7:00 p.m.: East of Euclid, dir. Jeff Solylo. A complex film noir involving gambling, sports and some unethical newspaper folks.

7:00 p.m.: Plagues & Pleasures On The Salton Sea, dir. Chris Metzler & Jeff Springer. Awesome documentary. (Read the underground movie review)

9:00 p.m.: Treadmill, dir. Corey Hooper. No info.

9:15 p.m.: Insanity, dir. Richard T. Celenza Jr. A thriller about a government conspiracy.

March 12
6:30 p.m.: Beantown, dir. Timothy Norman. A gang war erupts between the Irish and Italians in Boston.

If I get info on the shorts screening or the couple films I can’t find an online synopsis for, I’ll do updates. For more info, like ticket prices and location and such, you can go to the MUFF MySpace page. As of this post, their official site still doesn’t have any info about this year’s fest yet.
