Come On, Get Anger-y

Black and white abstract movie poster

The revitalized infatuation with Kenneth Anger continues on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 9:00 p.m. at L’Envers in Montreal, QC, Canada with the world premiere of Ca Ca Ca‘s documentary The Man We Want to Anger: Kenneth Anger, Aleister Crowley, Cinema, Magick and the Occult. The screening is being hosted by the nefarious Cinema Abattoir.

Not having seen the film myself and with scant details online, the best I can describe the film — and still it sounds pretty good to me — is a combination of an interview with Anger regarding the influence of British occultist Aleister Crowley on his work as well as an experimental visual exploration of magick on film. The interview was conducted in Paris by Montreal underground filmmaker Ca Ca Ca at an exhibit of Crowley’s artwork. The film also includes a soundtrack featuring bands Throbbing Gristle, Coil, Torso and Sonic Youth.

The title of Ca Ca Ca‘s film is a play on Kenneth Anger’s own film on Crowley’s artwork, The Man We Want to Hang, which can be found on the second volume of Fantoma’s DVD collection of Anger’s films.

Sounds like a cool film. If you’re in or near Montreal, check it out.
